From being a PE teacher in a school in Sale to being a professional footballer at the Shay Stadium, the story of Warburton’s is one that showcases his level of hard work. The 29-year-old attacking midfielder played part-time football for Maine Road, Curzon Ashton, Salford City & Stockport County – he played over 100 league games for Curzon over two spells and scored close to 90 goals. After 34 league goals in 79 matches for Stockport, Warburton was snapped up by League One Northampton Town in 2019. He spent two seasons with Northampton – spending a loan spell away at Yeovil and being released in the summer after scoring 2 goals for the club.
