FC Halifax Town won 2-1 away at Woking tonight to earn all three points in the Vanarama National League.

The Shaymen had to come from behind as Timi Akinola put the Cards ahead in first time injury time, Angelo Cappello’s second half penalty looked to have secured a point but a Tylor Golden strike six minutes into injury time won the game to send the 50 or so Halifax fans home happy.

Town boss Chris Millington made three changes from Saturday’s defeat at home to Eastleigh with Adam Senior, Jordan Keane, and Andrew Oluwabori into the starting XI.

The Shaymen had an early opportunity with a Tylor Golden cross was headed out to Florent Hoti, but his shot was well wide of the target, but the referee Wayne Cartmel had blown for a foul in the box in the build-up.

A long throw into the box for the home side was flicked on. The shot from Padraig Amond was blocked and the resulting shot was over the bar.

Town’s best chance of the first half came in the 27th minute, a throw into Angelo Cappello, a lovely turn and his shot deflected out for a corner. The ball in was headed clear by Dan Moss and the home side went up field and Dennon Lewis shot was parried by Johnson and Zak Bradshaw fired wide of the target.

Woking had another opportunity, Jim Kellermann shot was blocked and then the ball came back to him, and he fired his shot past Johnson but off the bar and out for a goal kick.

Town had the ball in the net, Oluwabori found Cappello, and he fired past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner but the offside flag up against the Town man.

A Padraig Amond freekick was comfortably saved by Johnson in the 34th minutes.

Millenic Alli got in behind the Woking defence, cut back inside but his shot was never troubling the Woking goal and out for a goal kick.

Town had an opportunity as Florent Hoti’s shot deflected wide for a corner. Hoti’s ball in met by Adam Senior but his effort was wide of the target.

The home side took the lead in injury time. Jim Kellermann found Timi Akinola on the edge of the box and his effort was not dealt with by Johnson which appeared to have caught him off guard.

Into the second half, a free kick by the goalkeeper on halfway was headed wide of the target by Amond. Then Sam Johnson had to save from Kellerman for a corner as the home side started the second half brightly, but he claimed the corner.

Hoti’s cross blocked for a corner. Into the box, played back out to Ryan Galvin and his shot was narrowly wide of the target.

The home side down the right, cross came in and Pavey headed down into the box and set up Dennon Lewis, but he volleyed over the bar.

Another effort from Lewis as Woking came down the left-hand side but the angle was tight and easy for Johnson to save.

Zak Bradshaw at the edge of the box, turned and shot deflected off Senior narrowly over the bar for a corner.

With just over 25 minutes left, Town boss Chris Millington made his first change with Aaron Cosgrave on for Oluwabori.

Alfie Pavey had plenty of space and he was able to get a shot away and Johnson had to parry the ball out for a corner. Ball into the box, Pavey’s effort was over the bar.

A foul on Galvin 25 yards from goal gave the Shaymen a freekick in a dangerous position. A four-man wall, Millenic Alli’s freekick deflected off the wall for a corner.

Town won a penalty on 77 minutes, Millenic Alli was brought down in the box under a challenge from Dennon Lewis. Angelo Cappello scored from the spot under the goalkeeper who couldn’t keep it out.

A Habergham freekick was headed out for a corner. His resulting ball into the box was headed clear by Stott at the far post.

Alli had a freekick over the bar with three minutes remaining as Millington made his final change with Jack Evans on for Angelo Cappello.

The home side wanted their own penalty in the final minute of normal time. Grego-Cox appeared to be brought down in the box, but no penalty was given by the referee.

A fantastic save from Johnson in injury time. Grego-Cox ball into the box and Lewis’s effort was saved by the Town captain and were rewarded with a win with a fantastic strike from Tylor Golden deep into injury time which left the Woking goalkeeper with absolutely no chance to win the game for the Shaymen.

Town are back in action on Saturday with a trip to Ebbsfleet United, 3pm kick-off.
