Salterlee Power Into Final

With the BT Sport cameras in town and a place in the final on the line, Holywell Green and Salterlee did not need any more of an incentive. Both sides would be looking for the victory that would secure them their place in the final two, but ultimately there could only be on winner.

Having impressed earlier in the competition it was Salterlee who once again started out  by playing some slick football on the Shay’s surface. After a good ball out wide their 15 he drifted inside and put himself on the receiving end of a cross which was hooked in nicely by the left foot of the winger. But just over the bar. But he didn’t let the missed opportunity get to him and within 30 seconds , after a poor kick form the goalkeeper, 15 dropped short to get the ball, and after a delicate one-two with the number 12 he slotted the ball in at the goalkeepers near post. The dominance displayed by the side in yellow almost allowed them to double their lead, but the number 8’s shot just went over the bar from range, but this was atoned for with the last attempt of the half. After a weaving run his low shot saw a deflection send the ball cruelly past the Holywell Green keeper.

As the sides swapped around for the second half Salterlee still kept hold of the ball very well, and the third goal was just around the corner. The very impressive number 15 dictated the play well, and when the ball came to his feet from distance he saw the opening to make it 3-0 and kill off the game. Holywell Green did eventually have a shot on goal, but this was a hopefully volley from range, similar to Wayne Rooney. In the dying seconds Salterlee’s 8 completed the rout with a fourth goal on the night, sending his side through to the final with a shot fired across the keeper and into the back of the net.

A big thank you to Josh Wilson for answering the teams questions before the game and commiserations who unfortunately just fell short of making the final
