  1. Alan Shearer is the club’s record goal scorer with 206 goals, when shearer arrived in 1996 he cost a world record fee for the time of £15 million.
  2. Newcastle have won four league titles, the last of which came back in 1927.
  3. Newcastle have not won a major trophy since the inter-cities fair cup back in 1969.
  4. The magpies are the ninth most successful football club in England.
  5. Newcastle originally played in a red and white striped kit, colours now associated with their fierce rivals Sunderland.
  6. The change to black and white stripes brought about their nickname of “The Magpies”.
  7. Andy Cole scored 41 goals in the 1993.94 season, it is still the record goals scored in a single season for Newcastle.
  8. Former Scottish goalkeeper Jimmy Lawrence holds the record for number of appearances with 496.
  9. Ex-manager Sir Bobby Robson was inducted into the English football half of fame in 2003.
  10. Both Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer have won the PFA player of the year while playing at Newcastle.
