FC Halifax Town made it three wins in a week to top the Vanarama National League with a resounding 3-0 victory over Maidstone United at the MBi Shay Stadium yesterday.

Town went ahead through Cameron King’s deflected shot just before the break, Ben Tomlinson doubled the lead after the break and Dayle Southwell from the penalty spot ensured all three points for Jamie Fullarton’s side.

Tomlinson spoke to Kelly Gilchrist from the official website after the game and he said, “It is is a great start, you can’t ask for much more. Three clean sheets so credit to all the lads at the back and obviously we are getting the goals.

“We work hard as a unit that starts at the front with Jonny and Dayle. We are winning the battles all over the pitch.”

“We are having it drilled into us whether defending or attacking it’s a team game and everyone is working hard”.

There was three changes to the starting XI from midweek with Jacob Hanson, Cameron King and Matty Kosylo coming into the team, Ben commented, “We are a squad, not just 11 players out there. That’s been built, we need players to stay fit and be ready when called upon.”

Town made it 1-0 just before the break for the third time this season, which is something Tomlinson doesn’t put down to luck.

“Three games we have scored before half time. Do we deserve to be ahead. Yes, Was it lucky, no it’s because we are working hard.”

Tomlinson was on the scoresheet himself and he said about his goal, “I hit it as hard as I could, the keeper got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out. I don’t score as many as I used to but I am trying. Jobs change, roles change and I do my bit for the team.”

Town are back in action on Tuesday night for the trip to Salford City, 7.45pm kick-off.
