As FC Halifax Town prepare for the second leg of the Skrill Premier playoffs against Cambridge United tomorrow, there has been plenty of significant football played today.
Wycombe Wanderers beat Torquay 3-0 at Plainmoor this afternoon and then had to rely on other results. It looked early on that it would be Chris Wilder’s Northampton Town who would be going down, but they beat Oxford United at Sixfields to secure their Football League status.
Wycombe were saved by Mansfield Town’s 1-0 away win at Bristol Rovers, sending them down to the Conference for the first time in their history.
In the race to come up to the Conference, it will be old friends from the Skrill North with either Altrincham or Guiseley who will face each other in the playoff final.
In the South, Ebbsfleet United and Dover Athletic will compete in the play-off final to secure their place in the non league top flight next season.
