FC Halifax Town will make the long trip to the south coast to take on Eastleigh on Saturday lunchtime in the final game of the Vanarama National League season.

The Shaymen know that a win would guarantee a play-off game on Wednesday night against the team that finishes 4th in the division. A draw or a defeat would see them looking at Aldershot’s result at Dagenham & Redbridge and Southend United’s home match with Rochdale.

Town are in the box seat for that final play-off place following a 2-2 draw with Oldham Athletic at the SMH Stadium in Chesterfield on Thursday night, the second of two midweek games played away from the Shay this week due to ongoing pitch problems.

Chris Millington’s side are in 7th position on goal difference over Aldershot, a difference of 14 goals this campaign, whilst Southend would need a 14th home win of the campaign and rely on their goal difference to seal the last place.

Town’s last away game saw a 2-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers thanks to two goals from Max Wright and a 11th away campaign of the season will certainly be welcome.

Eastleigh are 12th in the table, they have won 8, drawn 6 and lost 8 on home soil this season scoring an impressive 40 goals at the Silverlake for a midtable side but conceded 42.

They have won four out of their last five games, wnning the last three all 1-0 away at Wealdstone, Kidderminster and York. The defeat was in their last home game at home to Maidenhead United

Paul McCallum leads their goalscoring charts with 31 goals in 37 games, Chris Maguire and Scott Quigley both are in double figures with 11.

Eastleigh won the return fixture 3-2 thanks to goals from Maguire and a brace from McCallum back in September.
