FC Halifax Town won 1-0 away at Altrincham on Saturday afternoon thanks to a strike from Jack Earing, a result which keeps the Shaymen in 7th place going into two home games this week against Wrexham and King’s Lynn.

Town boss Pete Wild told Shaymen TV, “I thought we started really well, on the front foot, pressing them, kept nicking the ball off them, kept going towards goal, got our goal through Jack and deserved the win”.

He continued, β€œAfter the goal, we dropped off them a bit to let them have the ball and it really frustrated them until half time. We did not keep hold of the ball well enough in the second half, but we have held on for the three points.”

Altrincham had a couple of chances, but they found Sam Johnson in fine form to earn Town a first clean sheet after 3 games of conceding goals.

Wild said, β€œSam has made two good saves and I am delighted with the clean sheet and the win. It is how you grind out the three points out and we had to ground it out today against a good Altrincham side”.

Town welcomed back midfielder Luke Summerfield for the final 20 minutes following injury.

β€œWe wanted to get Luke and Martin Woods on in midfield to hold the ball for us, give us legs and some more energy. They both did that, and we were able to get higher up the pitch. I am really pleased Luke is back in the squad, we have good competition for places and can only bode well for the run-in. He has come back a game earlier than we had originally planned.”

On Tuesday night, Town will entertain Wrexham as 7th vs 8th go head-to-head. Town sit one place above our North Wales opponents, three points ahead with a game in hand.

Wild concluded, β€œWe know there are tough games coming up, but we’re not looking past Wrexham now. It is a big game for us. We need to go toe to toe with them. We need to make the Shay a fortress between now and the end of the season. We got into the game for matches like Tuesday night, we are all excited about it. We need to put a performance together which keeps us in a good position in the league, hopefully we will do so”.
