Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 over Guiseley in the FA Trophy, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It wasn’t the most thrilling game,” Millington said. “It certainly got a bit more interesting towards the end when Guiseley had a flurry of chances and we had to be on it with the defending in and around the box. The lads coped with that well and all in all it was a tie where it’s just been slugged out for the vast majority of it.”

Festus Arthur netted the only goal of the game from a first half corner to send the Shaymen through to the next round.

“It was a really good goal from Festus,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “With Guiseley leaving two up on corners, the lads made the decision to go short which I think is always sensible if a team leaves a number of players up. You want to play in that situation not just put it in the box because that’s what they want, they want to get the ball and hit you on the counter. We worked the ball into the box well and we were all saying we thought Festus took his goal really well. Pleased for him to get off the mark for the club as well.”

Town will face the winner of Swindon Supermarine vs Harrow Borough in the next round and Millington admitted a lot of research will need to be done on the two sides.

“It’ll take a fair bit of research to find out about them,” Millington said. “But we will get that done. We’ll open up our network, talk to people we know involved with team who come up against them on a regular basis. We’ll get as much footage as we can, we’ll do all our usual prep, and we’ll work as hard as we can to understand as much about them as possibly can before we go into the tie.”

Up next for the Shaymen is the West Riding County Cup fixture against Albion Sports and Millington is looking for anyone who didn’t feature against Guiseley to get some minutes ahead of Altrincham on Boxing Day.

“For any lads who didn’t play tonight, we’ll look to get them as many minutes into their legs,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “It’s so we’ll have a full squad who are ready and prepared to go out and perform on Boxing Day. It’s been such a while since our last league game then all of those starting positions are up for grabs and we want to make sure as many lads as possible have got as many minutes in their legs as possible and have got the opportunity to stake a claim for a starting position.”
