FC Halifax Town defeated Maidenhead United 7-4 in a bizarre Emirates FA Cup tie. Elliot Newby made it seventh heaven for the Shaymen and spoke to the media after the match.

Elliot, the loanee from Stockport County, extended his loan period and marked it off with a goal in the 73rd minute. After Tyrell Warren, Matt Warburton, Kian Spence, Billy Waters (2), and Jordan Slew all found the back of the net earlier in the match.

“I don’t think I have been involved in a game like that before,” Newby began by saying when reviewing the scoreline. “It was so open, it looked like we could score ten and they could’ve scored as many as they want. But, it’s one of those games you look back on and enjoy playing in.”

He added on getting a mark on the scoresheet; “I’m buzzing, I want to help as much as possible, whether that’s setting up goals or scoring,” Newby stated. “I just want to help the team carry on the great form we started the season with, so it was nice to chip in and get the last one.”

Attention later turned to Elliot’s loan extension until January 2nd; “I’m really happy,” said the midfielder about his emotions on renewing the deal. “I came here to get some more games and build my minutes week-by-week. I feel like I’m getting fitter and the team is doing well, so it’s a good environment to be in, hopefully, I can stay here as long as possible and help the team.”

The Shaymen’s 7th goal scorer ended his interview by looking back at his time with National League North’s Chorley, where he was part of a giant-killing Emirates FA Cup run last season. The side beat Wigan Athletic, Peterborough United, and Derby County from the Football League, before exiting after defeat to Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“It was this time last year, and it was amazing to be a part of it,” Newby reflected. “You go into those games with a free-hit, because they’re three or four leagues above you. So, they’re really good games to play in and matches you look back on in your career.”
