Following FC Halifax Town’s 3-2 win over Altrincham, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“Once again, I thought we started really well,” Wild said. “We could have been 1-0 up very early doors, but that chance did not come off. Once we got the first and the second goal we were really on top. It was disappointing that we let them back into the game and we made it difficult for ourselves. When we were on top, we dropped too deep and invited them on to us. We conceded a soft goal just before half time and we knew we needed to come back out and start well. We certainly did that in the second half. Again, it was disappointing that we dropped off after we had been on top. It is frustrating. On two occasions we had the game dead and buried, but we offered them a way back in. We were resilient and we stood strong. We had just one recognised centre-forward on the pitch and we scored three goals.”

Billy Chadwick put the Shaymen 2-0 up with a good strike. The forward has now scored three in his four appearances since signing on loan from Hull City.

“He has been brilliant hasn’t he,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “An absolute breath of fresh air. The lad works hard every game and he is a threat every time he gets the ball. Every time he gets into the box you think he might score. It is clear he has been a great acquisition to the squad.”

Martin Woods scored a great strike within the first minute of the second half. Despite starting with just one striker -Wild was delighted with the goal scoring efforts of his side.

“It was a great strike at the end of some great play,” Wild said. “To score right at the start of the half gets you onto the front foot and puts you back in the ascendancy. We are tired, we have had eight games this month, but once again the character in the squad has got us home. We decided to play Kieran Green up front, we knew he would be a nuisance and cause problems. It is not his chosen role, but I thought he played it excellently today. He seems to be my go-to man when I need a dirty job doing. Fair play to him because he does not complain and just gets on with it.”

Town face Hartlepool on the 2nd of January in the third of three games against the North-East side. Wild is looking forward to the game and hoping to right the wrongs of Boxing day.

“It is round three, here we go again,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “I was disappointed about boxing day, on reflection that has not changed. I thought we certainly should have come away with a point. I am smarting so I hope the players are as well ahead of Saturday. It should be a really good game.”
