FC Halifax Town fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Hartlepool United. Josh Staunton spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

He said: “It’s quite a disappointing loss to be fair. We had a fair bit of the ball we just didn’t really hurt them. We didn’t look quite so sharp in front of goal as we have been in previous weeks. We were just lacking today.”

Devante Rodney netted his 6th goal for the Shaymen as they went 1-0 up. Staunton was pleased to see him get another goal as he looks to finish the season well.

He said: “It was a good finish. I think we broke on them fast and then Kosylo cut in from the right, put a good ball in. It was a tidy finish. He’s definitely finishing the season strongly.”

Hartlepool equalised through a deflected cross. The ball was put into the box and it took a slight touch to take it past Johnson. Staunton feels the team were unlucky with to concede in such a fashion.

He said: “We look back at the goals and they’re two disappointing goals to concede. A free cross and a flick and for the second he has found himself with space in the box. We’re disappointed with the way we’ve conceded those goals.”

Jacob Hanson was brought off in the 72nd minute forcing Staunton to drop into the right back position. He felt he was comfortable with this new role and felt he did well.

He said: “It wasn’t a game where they were really getting at the fullbacks. It wasn’t the hardest. It wasn’t like they were directly going at me. So, I felt I did alright. It wasn’t the hardest move I’ve ever had to do on the pitch.”

The Shaymen host Wrexham on Monday in the final home game of the season. Staunton is confident the team can perform against the side looking to secure a playoff spot.

He said: “I think over the course of the season; we’ve probably done better against teams who are pushing. It allows us to counter attack a bit more and catch them when they’ve got a few more bodies forward. I think you’ve just got to go into it and take the positives from this one and push on.”
