Saturday the 8th of September sees FC Halifax Town travel to Essex to take on 15th placed Dagenham and Redbridge, a team who find themselves one place above Jamie Fullarton’s side having played two more games, the side from West Yorkshire will be looking for an impressive return to league football after they were eliminated from the FA Cup by AFC Wimbledon last week.
The meeting at Victoria Road will be the second time the teams have faced this season after a 2-1 win for The Shaymen in the previous fixture thanks to goals from Matty Kosylo and Jonathon Edwards.
The Daggers are in a good run of form as they welcome Halifax to Essex having picked up 4 wins in their last five games which saw them move up the table to leap frog the visitors.
The home side’s last loss in the National League came away at 8th place Sutton United when they suffered a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a goal from former Crystal Palace winger Kieron Cadogan. The defeat was responded to positively and a 2-1 win over AFC Fylde signalled the start of four back-to-back wins for Peter Taylor’s side
The win over Fylde took place at Victoria Road and it was strikes from Conor Wilkinson and Jack Munns after the away side scored in the first minute through Andrew Bond. This was followed by a 2-0 away win over London side Bromley who sit in 18th place, goals from Conor Wilkinson and former QPR man Angelo Balanta made sure the points made the short journey back to Essex.
An impressive 3-1 win over South Coast side Havant and Waterlooville followed the win over Bromley win Conor Wilkson and Angelo Balanta scoring the goals needed for the win with the former scoring twice before the away side added a consolation.
The side’s most recent game again produced an impressive display from the Daggers as they overcame a 1-0 deficit to beat 14th place Hartlepool Unite after Liam Noble put the North East side ahead. However, a spirited fightback followed with Ben Goodliffe equalising in the 90th minute before a injury time strike from Matt Robinson turned the game on his head and meant the points were snatched in favour of the away side.
There are a few ‘danger men’ of note for Dagenham and Redbridge specifically Conor Wilkinson who has amassed four goals in his four appearances for the club, with the on loan Gillingham striker grabbing a brace against Havant and Waterlooville. Angelo Balanta could also be a man to cause FC Halifax Town some problems with the Colombian finding the net twice in his last five outings.
FC Halifax Town come into the game in a mixed run of form in recent games with the side currently sitting in 16th place, a place behind their hosts who have played two games more than The Shaymen.
In recent games, a 2-1 defeat at Havant and Waterlooville meant the West Yorkshire side left the South coast empty handed and a Niall Maher goal proved only to be a consolation. After this a clash in the FA Cup against League Two side Morecambe followed and The Shaymen gave a very good account of themselves, earning and 0-0 draw and thus a replay at the MBi Shay.
A win over Dover Athletic followed the FA Cup tie courtesy of a first half Matty Kosylo goal giving Town their 6th win of the season. Another win followed the Dover game and it came in the second meeting against Football League side Morecambe, an early Cameron King strike meant that Halifax progressed to the next round.
A 4-0 defeat at the hands of Ebbsfleet United was the Shaymen’s most recent league result with a penalty from Danny Kedwell contributing to Town’s defeat. The side’s most recent game saw them be defeated at home to League One side AFC Wimbledon 3-1 in the FA Cup third round where the Football League side’s quality showed in a spirited display from FC Halifax Town.
The Shaymen will be hoping to return from Essex with three points in their pocket but will have to be on their best form to beat The Daggers.
