Hometown hero and goal scorer, Nathan Clarke, spoke to the official website after yesterday’s brilliant 2-0 win away against Braintree Town. Before he talked about the game itself, Nathan was keen to tell us why he’s happy to have signed for his hometown club.

“An opportunity came up very early to come and have a bit of a go, train with the team and see how I fit in. Thankfully I managed to earn a contract and I’m delighted to play for my hometown team. It’s something that I was always looking to do and I’m delighted to get it over the line”.

Nathan then went on to give us his thoughts on the opening day victory.

“I thought it was a professional performance. I thought we stuck in there and stayed in the game. We knew our quality would shine through as we’ve scored plenty of goals in pre-season, so we knew we’d create plenty of opportunities. It turned out today that two set pieces won us the game”.

Nathan was in good spirits and even joked with the official website when going on to talk us through his headed goal.

“The lads are saying it was probably the better of the two headers. No, we were putting them under a lot of pressure from both free-kicks and corners and Jonny got us off to a great start. I think you can wear teams down when you keep putting them under pressure and we did that. For myself, to score was fantastic and to get the clean sheet topped it off”.

As Nathan mentioned, FC Halifax Town certainly were a threat from set pieces and he was full of praise for teammate Ben Tomlinson who provided the deliveries both goals.

“He was fantastic. He’s done that throughout pre-season. I’ve said it to many people that his voice in and around the dressing room is fantastic. He’s always positive and desperate to do well for the team. He certainly proved that today with some quality set pieces”.

The full interview with Nathan Clarke is available right now on Shaymen TV.
