FC Halifax Town earned themselves a fully deserved replay in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup after one of the more entertaining 0-0 draws at Dagenham & Redbridge.

A stalemate was the fairest result and if either side had been knocked out of the competition at this stage it would have been harsh on them. Both sides had chances to book their place in the second round, with Liam King having the best of those in the first half.

We spoke to Scott Garner at the end of the match and he was delighted with the performance from all the lads out there…

“We’ve worked really hard today and I’m really proud of the performance. I thought the lads worked so hard and we got what we deserved, if not I think we could have gone on and won the game and it would have been a great result, but it’s great to be in the hat for Monday and see what reward we get if we win the replay.”

Despite the Daggers flying in the National League Premier, The Shaymen more than matched them and Garner was a pinnacle part of the side…

“I think it’s a fair result, they’re a good side but we’ve more than matched them today physically, ability wise and outworked them if anything, you get your rewards when you do that and we were unlucky to not go and win the game in the end, but we’ll take the draw and take them back to our place for another go.”

Any player would be excited for the second round draw of the FA Cup and with Halifax having their name in it Garner is excited to see the prospect of who could potentially be on their radar…

“You get excited on the day to see who you pull, there are obviously teams you want and you get that excitement again now even though we’re not quite through yet.”

The centre-back will be having his immediate focus on Kidderminster Harriers and the replay against Dagenham, but he will have one eye on the potential opposition in the second round…

“I would like to have Coventry away because that’s where I’m from. I fancy any of the big ones from league one end like Bolton or Sheffield United but whoever does come out, we’ve got to try and get through the next and take it to them again.”

The Shaymen’s replay at the MBi Shay against Dagenham & Redbridge will be played on Tuesday 15th November.
