This weekend the Shaymen entertain promotion challengers Solihull Moors at the Shay Stadium. FC Halifax Town look to continue their fine start to the season with a win over Solihull. Here we look at Solihull striker Paul McCallum who is one to watch on the weekend.
McCallum joined Solihull this summer on a two-year deal from Eastleigh but here we find out where Paul started his career. He started his youth at Dulwich Hamlet, where he started to play professionally at 15. In his first season he scored 9 goals in 11 games for Dulwich, in January that season, he attracted interest from Premier league giants such as Liverpool, Arsenal, United and Chelsea. In the end, McCallum ended up choosing West Ham United.
Paul was at West Ham for around four years, but never got a chance in the first team. He spent four years with many loan spells. In 2013, he had three loan spells at AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot Town and Torquay United. McCallum then spent time at Hearts and Portsmouth on loan.
His West Ham career came to an end before he got a shot at the first team and McCallum joined League Two club Leyton Orient on a two-year contract. He scored on his debut for Orient and scored 3 goals in 10 games in his first season. In his second, he became more of a starlet for the team, bagging 12 goals in 33 games.
In the 2017-18 season, Paul joined Eastleigh on a two-year contract. Here is where Paul really showed his talent, over the two years he spent at Eastleigh, he scored 35 goals in 72 games. He was known as Eastleigh’s main man and one of the most dangerous players in the 2018-19 season, scoring 26 goals in 41 games in the National League.
McCallum left Eastleigh this summer to challenge for promotion with Solihull Moors. He’s had a good start to the season, bagging 4 goals already this season.
