Saturday the 29th of December sees FC Halifax Town travel to the North East to take on Gateshead in the Vanarama National League and will be looking to continue their winnings ways after picking up a 2-1 win their previous game against local rivals Harrogate.
The side welcoming The Shaymen currently sit 7th in the league and have been in a decent run of form in their last five games, playing fixtures which has seen them amass 3 wins and 2 defeats.
The first of this run started on the 1st of December against promotion hopefuls Leyton Orient. Gateshead travelled to London looking to pick up a positive result against Justin Edinburgh’s side. However, goals from Josh Koroma and Macauley Bonne meant The Head returned back to Tyneside empty handed.
Gateshead responded well to the recent defeat in their next game on the 8th of December as they faced Bromley at home, Luke Armstrong fired The Head in front after 16 minutes before Fraser Kerr made sure of the points 10 minutes after the break.
A match in the FA Trophy followed the win against Bromley. Gateshead travelled to Greater Manchester to take on high flying Salford City and an Emmanuel Dierseruvwe opener in the 35th minute put The Ammies in control. A Devante Rooney brace in the final 10 minutes made sure of Salford’s progression in the competition with Luke Armstrong’s 89th minute goal proving only to be a consolation.
The Tynesiders then showed their bounce back ability with an away win over 23rd placed Maidstone United with a brace from Luke Molyneux coming either side of a Robbie Tinkler goal meaning the side headed back to the North East with all three points.
They followed up that win with another, this time over local rivals Hartlepool United. A Luke Armstrong brace in the first half was enough to secure the victory even after a late Liam Noble penalty set up a nervy ending.
Gateshead go into the game against Halifax knowing they can score the goals to secure the win, but they will be without midfielder Tom White after he was sent off in their last outing.
FC Halifax Town head into the match in a good run of form after Jamie Fullarton’s side have put in impressive performances in their last five games. A run, which has seen The Shaymen, pick up 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.
The first of these results came on the 8th of December in the form a well fought draw away at Dagenham and Redbridge. A Nathan Clarke goal in the 80th minute made sure that Town left Essex with a point after Jack Munns had put the home side in front on the hour mark.
The game at Dagenham and Redbridge was followed by a win over Barrow in the FA Trophy. Halifax travelled to Cumbria looking to progress in the competition and a 2-1 win was enough to see this happen courtesy of goals from Matty Brown and Jonathan Edwards.
Halifax then welcomed Boreham Wood to West Yorkshire and the contest ended in a 1-1 draw after Justin Shaibu put the away side in front within the first 5 minutes. Dayle Southwell brought The Shaymen level just before the break and this saw both sides handed a point.
Saturday the 22nd of December saw Halifax host 8th placed Sutton United and both teams cancelled each other out for the most parts of the game before a Craig Eastmond goal in added time meant that Sutton headed back to South London with all three points.
Halifax themselves showed their good bounce back ability in their most recent game when they travelled to Yorkshire rivals Harrogate Town who had sat 4th in the league before the contest. The Shaymen came from behind to win the game 2-1 after Callum Howe had given Harrogate the lead before halftime. After the break goals from Nathan Clarke and Dayle Southwell ensured the win for Town.
Both teams are in good form heading into the clash and will feel they both have what it takes to pick up all three points.
