FC Halifax Town travel to play-off chasing Bromley FC this weekend in the National League and with a squad full of former Premier League and Football League players, we take a look at Football League veteran Alan Dunne.
Dunne was born in Dublin, Ireland but started his career with Millwall’s youth system at the age of eight before signing a professional deal in 2000.
However, it wasn’t until the 2001/2002 season when the defender made his Lions debut. Following his first game in a Millwall shirt, the Irishman would go on to make almost 400 club appearances during a 23-year spell at the club.
Experiencing a number of promotions and relegations during his time with the Southern side, Dunne was also awarded Millwall’s Player of the Year 2009/10.
Following his release from the Den in July 2015, the defender went on to sign for Leyton Orient who had recently been relegated. After making just a handful of appearances for The O’s, Dunne was on the move for a third time in his career, this time joining National League side Bromley in January 2017 on a free transfer.
On his arrival at the club, then-manager Neil Smith said: “It’s brilliant, he comes in with vast experience, he trained well yesterday with the team and the team have taken to him really well. He is coming in as a valued asset not just on the pitch as a player but also off it as a coach. He is a great acquisition for the Club.”
