FC Halifax Town are preparing to host Barrow FC at the MBi Shay Stadium on Saturday, following a more positive result last time out against Eastleigh FC.
It may not have been a victory for Billy Heathβs side, but the exciting 3-3 draw against the south coast side has certainly upped the spirits around the Shay in anticipation of this weekendβs clash with the Bluebirds.
In this section, we look at some of the news from the Vanarama National League this week, starting with Saturdayβs visitors.
Bluebirds boss Ady Pennock says he wants to add at least one new face to his squad before this Saturdayβs game against the Shaymen, following a few injuries and suspensions in recent weeks.
Pennock, who has been out watching some potential targets already, had a depleted squad to choose from before his sideβs 3-0 defeat to Bromley, but he hopes to have this problem solved by the time the team arrive at the Shay.
βI think we need a boost now. I think we need a couple of fresh faces; Paul and Andrew know who they are, so hopefully that will happen sometime this week.
βWe need to be stronger. The injured players are getting back, which is great bonus for us, but Iβm more thinking about now than two or three weeksβ time β we need some fresh faces in now to give everybody a boost.
βHopefully we will get something over the line before Saturday, thatβs for sure.β
Elsewhere, Guiseley manager Paul Cox has said that he will look to make some big decisions following his sideβs 2-0 home defeat to high-flyers Sutton United at the weekend.
The defeat leaves the Lions 23rd in the National League standings, who have a welcome break from the league as they aim to reach the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.
After Saturdayβs defeat, speaking to the clubβs website, Cox questioned his sideβs effort in recent games.
“I feel like I need to make some big decisions, my expectation levels are high, I’m okay with a loss if the performance and effort is there, that wasn’t the case during this loss, it wasn’t good enough
“Everything we wanted to improve upon just wasn’t there, in recent games it has been, we just need to make sure this was a one off.”
Finally, Macclesfield Townβs Ryan Lloyd says he probably will not score a better goal in his career, after the midfielder arguably scored a goal of the season contender in the 1-1 draw against Maidenhead United at the weekend.
Lloyd, who signed for the Silkmen in the summer, scored from inside his own half to beat keeper Carl Pentney, who was left to watch in awe of the midfielderβs sweet strike. That goal put the Silkmen 1-0 up, before Jake Hyde equalised in the dying moments for the home side.
Speaking to the clubβs website about his wonder strike, Lloyd was pleased to say the least.
“It was one of those things that could have gone really wrong, but I hit it pretty sweet.
βI took a touch and I was looking for the forwards and I saw the goalkeeper on the edge of the area and I hit it, and thankfully I hit it sweet and it couldnβt have gone any better.
βI probably wonβt score a better one.”
If you cannot make it to the Shay on Saturday, then there will be live updates of the match available on the club website along with live match commentary.
