FC Halifax Town under 19’s manager Mark Trueman has said that his side have what it takes to deal with their tough schedule ahead of their League Cup tie with Stockport County this afternoon (Kick off 1:30).

Halifax play the first of their two matches in three days against Stockport, before returning to league action to host Rochdale on Wednesday.

Trueman believes that the gruelling fixture list on paper will be beneficial to his squad’s progress. “I think the schedule good for the lads”, Trueman said. I think the more games, the more development really.”

“The more games the lads play, the more times we get to see them and they get into different situations and get to learn from that.”

“Physically, it might be a little bit of a challenge but I might try and rotate the team if possible and if people are looking fatigued.

“I’ll be looking to give them a day’s rest ahead of the lads’ playing again on Wednesday. But, as a player, you just want to play games so it’ll be good for us this week.”

Stockport have won three of their opening four league matches and Trueman is expecting another tough test at Cheadle Sports Club.

“Stockport were in our league last season so we know a little bit about them,” said Trueman.

“We know that they’re doing ok in their league, so we’re expecting a tough game.”

“The pitch that they play on is ok, it will still allow us to play our football but it might affect us a little bit so we know that it’s going to be more of a battle than a footballing game.”

“But, I think we’ll get through it and I’m just looking for a big performance from the lads.”

After a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool United in the FA Youth Cup last month, Town now have a second chance of a cup run in the League Cup.

“It’s a good cup,” Trueman continued. “The further down the rounds, the better the teams that will come in.”

“Over the last couple of years, we’ve down ok in the competition. Last year, not so good because we prioritised the (FA) Youth Cup, but the other year we got to the semi-finals.”

“It’s a competition that we’ll be wanting to do well in just so the lads can play some better teams and test themselves against those stronger sides.”

We will have coverage of today’s game on Twitter and Snapchat (@fchtonline).
