FC Halifax Town are pleased to confirm our first summer signing with centre back Mackenzie Maltby, who joins from League One side Sheffield Wednesday.
Having joined the Owls at the age of seven, Maltby quickly progressed through the youth ranks, going on to be named as captain for the under 18s. In 2023, the defender signed his first professional contract with the club, and signed an extension the following summer. In August 2024, Maltby joined Scarborough Athletic in the National League North. Initially a one-month loan, this was extended through to December.
Having returned to Sheffield Wednesday due to injury, Maltby returned to Scarborough in February for the remainder of the season. The Seadogs finished 13th and the defender was named as the club’s young player of the year. Last season, Maltby made his debut for Wednesday as a half time substitute against Oxford United in the Championship.
