Rob Harker’s 93rd minute equaliser cancelled out Dipo Akinyemi’s strike with the game ending 1-1 at the Shay Stadium.

FC Halifax Town aimed to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Hartlepool United at the hands of a penalty from their former striker Emmanuel Dieseruvwe.

The loss was a stumble in Town’s promotion charge, as seven wins in their last nine have seen them move to 8th and a win away from being back in the play-off spots.

York City beat Vanarama National League Champions Chesterfield 2-1 last Friday, making it three wins in three for Adam Hinshelwood’s side.

The Derby was scheduled for Monday night but was pushed back a day as the pitch failed its inspection due to waterlogging.

York striker Dipo Akinyemi picked the ball up around 30 minutes in and feinted left than right, before slicing a shot just wide of Sam Johnson’s post.

A great threaded pass in behind by Luke Summerfield met Ryan Galvin, who whipped the ball low and early into Rob Harker’s outstretched leg who could only turn it wide.

Those two chances were the only talking points of a frustrating first-half for both sides.

Akinyemi had another effort as he side-stepped Summerfield and dragged his shot wide in a similar fashion to his first half attempt.

Jamie Cooke made his return from injury in the 63rd minute as he replaced Andrew Oluwabori. Cooke came close to making an impact straight away, taking it past two York players on the left-wing before pulling it back and nearly forcing Ryan Fallowfield into scoring an own-goal as George Sykes-Kenworthy made a diving stop.

Kane Thompson-Sommers was the Shaymen’s second change as he came on for Summerfield with just over twenty minutes left to play.

In the 74th minute, the visitors made it 1-0 through their striker Akinyemi. Marvin Armstrong picked up a loose ball on the right-hand side from a free-kick and drifted a ball into the back post to Akinyemi for his 14th goal of the season.

Adan George came on from the bench in response to Town going a goal down with Max Wright making way.

In the third minute of the five added on Town were gifted an equaliser. Sykes-Kenworthy could only turn a miss-hit clearance onto the crossbar as he toppled into his goal with the ball falling at the feet of Harker who put the ball into an open net for 1-1.

That’s how it ended at the Shay, the game mirroring the reverse fixture in which Patrick McLaughlin’s 93rd minute dagger stopped Halifax leaving the LNER Community Stadium with all three points.

Fixtures now come thick and fast for FC Halifax Town as the Vanarama National League campaign nears a close.

Their next game is away at Kidderminster Harriets on Saturday, a team who are fighting to avoid relegation in 21st place. Kick-Off at the Aggborough Stadium is at 5:30pm.
