Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 win over York City, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I enjoyed it for a change,” Millington said. “It was an enjoyable game to watch. In the first half, with the ball, we worked it well and created numerous chances. In some respects, we felt a bit hard done to going in only 1-0 up, we should have taken more chances. Then in the second half we knew they would come out, we knew they would change things which they did, they changed shape and personnel.

They were much better then than they had been in the first half. But for the territory and the possession that they had, we had the better chances. Kian’s hit the keeper from a short distance out early in the second half. Sam Johnson also had a fantastic game in marshalling the back line. So, we’re really pleased with the performance all round.”

Town opened the scoring after 28 minutes thanks to Rob Harker’s first goal for the club.

“I’m really pleased for Rob,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “He’s one of the ones that has had to be patient to get his game time. But we know he’s quality. He’s still got to learn a little bit about playing first team football on a regular basis, but he’s shown tonight that he can handle it. He’s shown tonight that he can contribute, not only by finishing when he gets chances but also with all the other bits we ask of our strikers, all the other bits that Mani Dieseruvwe has been contributing with his work outside the box.

Hopefully it has been reassuring for the fans to see we’ve got two really out and out number nines who can contribute to where we want to go this season.”

Following last Saturday’s defeat, Millington expressed his disappointment in the performance and demanded a reaction from the players which he certainly got.

“It was really good tonight,” Millington said. “There are lads in the squad who have been waiting for an opportunity to play and they got that tonight. All the players tonight, including the ones that came on contributed to the performance in one way or another. Even the subs coming on, Jordan Slew had an impact, Mani worked his socks off when we were stretched and got into some good positions and were it not for some unusual decisions from the referee, he might’ve made a couple of chances for himself. It’s a squad game and if we can get everyone working as cohesively as we did tonight then we are going to be in a good place.”

Town travel to Maidstone on Saturday and Millington is keen to back up the result with another good performance and another three points.

“It’s vital to back it up now,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “We don’t want any more false dawns. We had that a little bit with what was a nice little run that we put together a few weeks back. We need to build on this and the way to do that is to maintain those performance levels, those energy levels, and that resilience in those spells when we are under pressure. Every team in this league will have a period where they will put you under some pressure, so we need to display those levels of resilience again when that happens.”
