FC Halifax Town fell to their second defeat of the season with a 1-0 away loss at Yeovil Town.

A first half penalty from Joe Quigley after Captain Niall Maher fouled his man in the area meant the hosts took all three points in front of the BT Sport cameras.

In a half of few chances for either side, it took 14 minutes for the visitors to open the scoring. Maher was adjudged to have fouled his man inside the area which left the referee with no choice but to give a penalty. Forward Joe Quigley fired straight down the middle to make it 1-0.

As Town looked to get back on level terms, both Martin Woods and Luke Summerfield had efforts from range blocked on the edge of the box. As the half went on, both sides struggled to create from open play with Yeovil having the better chances from set-pieces.

Four minutes after the restart, Town won themselves a corner. A short pass to Tyrell Warren resulted in a first time cross into the box. Jesse Debrah met the cross but couldn’t direct his header on target.

Just four minutes later The Shaymen thought they had gone level. Former Shayman Josh Staunton gave away a free kick on the edge of the box which Matt Warburton directed towards the bottom left corner. Grant Smith was able to parry it away but it fell to Debrah who could only fire it onto the post as the chance went begging.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Yeovil looked to double their lead as Quigley made a bursting run into the Halifax box. After it got caught under his feet it fell to a teammate who’s shot was blocked for a corner which was easily caught by Sam Johnson.

With five minutes added on and Town putting on the pressure, Yeovil managed to start a counter attack. Substitute Adi Yussuf broke off down the right side but Jay Benn managed to get back and put in a vital block.

Despite late pressure, The Shaymen couldn’t find a way through the Yeovil defence as the hosts held on to take all three points. Town’s next fixture comes at home against Southend on Saturday the 11th at 3:00pm.
