FC Halifax Town were held to a point in the Vanarama National League, with a 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town.

An early goal from Jeff King was cancelled out by a second-half strike from Courtney Duffus, in an entertaining game at The Shay.

It was a frantic start to the game with both sides creating several chances in the opening stages. Yeovil had a good chance to open the scoring in just the 3rd minute, as Albi Skendi managed to get a shot off inside the Town area, however he was denied by a brilliant block from Nathan Clarke, who managed to clear.

The Shaymen had their goal just three minutes later, courtesy of a good counter-attacking move. Jamie Allen took the ball from just inside his own half, all the way to just outside the Yeovil penalty area, crossing the ball that eventually fell to Jeff King, who fired a right footed strike into the top corner.

Halifax had a good chance to double their lead two minutes later. It was the lively Jamie Allen again who picked out Martin Woods inside the area, who managed to get a shot away, however his effort was deflected and only resulted in a corner.

After the gameโ€™s early chances, it settled down as the half went on with very few good opportunities for either side. In the 30th minute, Jamie Allen fizzed a low cross across the penalty area, but Gold Omotayo could not quite get his foot on the end of it.

Another good chance fell for Omotayo just five minutes later. The striker picked the ball up unmarked 8 yards-out after a deflected shot from Jeff King, but the striker could not get his shot away before it was blocked by a Yeovil defender.

As the second half began, Halifax were again started on the front foot. In the 47th minute, Jack Senior made a great run forward from the left and played a through ball for half-time substitute Gevaro Nepomuceno. The striker controlled well and got his shot away, only to be denied by a good save from Adam Smith in the Yeovil goal.

Yeovil began to grow into the game and had a good opportunity in the 53rd minute, Matt Warburton played through Rhys Murphy from the right, who took the ball in his stride and got a right-footed shot away, firing just wide of Sam Johnsonโ€™s near post.

The Glovers would have their equalizer just two minutes later. A loose ball directed to Sam Johnson was picked up by striker Courtney Duffus, who was able to lob it over the oncoming goalkeeper and find the back of the net for the visitors, levelling the scores.

In the 73rd minute, the visitors had a brilliant opportunity to take the lead. After some good link up play, Charlie Lee found himself one-on-one with Sam Johnson just inside the penalty area, with the midfielder striking the ball with his left-foot, however a vital double save from Johnson kept the game level.

The Shaymen had their chances to take all three points in the closing stages of the game. In the 80th minute, Jack Earing had a shot inside the area blocked by Lee Collins, before a brilliant free kick from Gevaro Nepomuceno was tipped over the bar by Adam Smith.

Despite the lively end to the game, neither side was able to strike the crucial blow, and the game finished FC Halifax Town 1-1 Yeovil Town.
