Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 win over Yeovil Town, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I was really pleased with the way we played today,” Wild said. “Certainly in the first half, I think it’s the best we have played in a long time. We looked free-flowing, we looked to play through the lines and consistently looked a threat. It was really nice to see. I did think we needed to score whilst we were on top, which we didn’t do. That did make it a little bit nervier as the game went on.”

Pierce Bird made his first start for the Shaymen as he replaced injured captain Niall Maher, and Wild was delighted the young defender was able to get a clean sheet to mark the occasion.

“I’m dead pleased for Birdy,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “He’s come in as back-up and now he has found himself at the front of the queue. He’s a really good footballer and he acquitted himself well today. I’m sure he was nervous so to get that first 90 minutes for the club out of the way, I’m sure he’s pleased. Also to get the clean sheet, every defender prides themselves on the clean sheets, so I’m sure he’s delighted.”

With just seven minutes left on the clock, substitute Zak Dearnley netted the winning goal after a patient attack from the Shaymen.

“I’ve just praised the players for their perseverance,” Wild revealed. “I’ve put on our notes today that we have got to believe in the process. We need to believe in what has got us here. Don’t come away from the game plan. I know a lot of our fans would like us to keep slinging it into the box, but that isn’t us. If you look at the goal, we get it because we are patient, we’re us. We got into the right areas today where we know we can score goals.”

With just one day off, Town travel to Eastleigh on Monday for the penultimate away fixture of the regular season

“We’ll be heading down there tomorrow (Sunday),” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We’ll be up and out tomorrow, so I’m just checking now that there are no injuries. I can’t have any more injuries! Hopefully there aren’t any more from today and we’ll be on the road tomorrow.”
