FC Halifax Town scored a stoppage time winner thanks to Devante Rodney against Wrexham in a 2-1 win in the last action in the Vanarama National League at The Shay this season. Shaymen TV spoke to match-winner Rodney after the game.

“It was a really good game, I thought we started really brightly. They sort of got into the game at the end of the first half. Halftime came the manager got his words across and in the second half I thought we were the better team and it was obviously a great feeling to score at the end.”

Considering the performance in the second half against Hartlepool just days before hand Town were got extra satisfaction out the game putting Friday’s result behind them.

“We’ve learnt from that; we were gutted on Friday after they scored late on and we didn’t do enough in the game to equalise. Today we’ve shown we have learnt from our mistakes.”

Rodney went onto talk about not giving up in the game, even if a draw would have been a positive result against Wrexham.

“I always knew I was going to get a chance; I had a few half chances that I didn’t really get a hold of. I just kept believing that I would get a chance. I got played in on the right, instead of holding it up and decide we’ll take the draw I dummied him onto my left foot, and I’ve hit it and fortunately it went in.”

Giving Rodney that pass on the attacking wide right position was centre-half Nathan Clarke, the striker had this to say about why Clarke found himself in uncharted territory for him.

“I’m not too sure, we were all just going for it at that moment in time.”

Since Rodney joined The Shaymen in March the striker has now got seven goals to his name.

“That’s all I want to do, just come in and score goals and fortunately I have done that and hopefully I can do that again on Saturday.”

Rodney finished off by saying how much he has enjoyed his time at The Shaymen

“It’s been quality the fans are fantastic. When me and Manny came in the lads have been really welcoming.”
