Following FC Halifax Town’s home defeat against Wrexham, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“Make no mistake, that was the toughest first half of football we have had all season,” Wild said. “It was uncharacteristic of us. We made silly mistakes that we have not been making all season as well as unforced errors. They have capitalised on every error. If you look at it, they have not even played that well and they are 4-0 up. But we have to own that. We can only apologise as staff and players, that was not good enough. But you look at the second half and we are back to dominant best. But it is easy to play when you are 4-0 down. It is a very frustrating evening, uncharacteristic, and it is a real wake up call for us all.”

Wrexham opened the scoring just four minutes into the game as Jordan Davies headed home from the first corner of the game.

“It should never have got to the corner,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “It was a mix-up, and we should have dealt with the ball before it went out for a corner. We were very sloppy, and we spoke before the game about how well Wrexham started games. We were forewarned about that, but we just did not start well and when you do not start well that is what you get. Unfortunately, that meant we paid the ultimate price today.”

Town could have had a consolation or two in the second half as Jack Earing had an effort not given and Niall Maher’s header was ruled out for offside.

“You look at the liner, he is three weeks behind play,” Wild said. “He has no chance of giving it either way because he is so far behind play and I made my thoughts clear to the officials. They certainly have not helped us this evening. But he is in line for Niall’s. I thought we played well in the second half but unfortunately, the game was over at that point.”

The Shaymen host King’s Lynn Town on Saturday in front of the BT Sport cameras, with Wild hoping for a reaction and a much better result.

“We’ve got a lot to put right on Saturday,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We have just made a commitment that we own that tonight. We put it down to a team not being good enough on the night and we are going to work hard for the rest of the week to put that right. It is a good chance to put it right in front of the cameras, but I’m sure King’s Lynn will be thinking the same as well.”
