Following FC Halifax Town’s narrow 2-1 defeat against Wrexham, Manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.
“Well, I’m gutted,” Wild said. “I’m gutted for the players as I thought tonight, we were excellent. Both with and without the ball we looked good. They had two chances which they took. That’s what they get for their money. But, across the whole game we were excellent. For a team with all that money and all that jazz, we totally outplayed them from start to finish. So, to lose I am seriously gutted for the players.”
Jordan Slew netted the opening goal of the game after Matty Warburton found the forward in plenty of space inside the box.
“We’ve countered well all night,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “That’s something we knew we would be able to do, and we countered well throughout the game but unfortunately we just couldn’t finish them off when it counted.”
Wrexham equalised with just nine minutes left on the clock through James Jones before Paul Mullin netted the winner in stoppage time.
“We were trying to get the second to kill them off,” Wild said. “I thought we had them on the ropes and the first goal was disappointing as we didn’t clear it further. Then with the second we’re trying to win the game. We’re gutted. Absolutely gutted as we have been the better side all evening. Sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve so it was disappointing to lose.”
Town make the long journey down to Torquay on Saturday with the hopes of getting back to winning ways.
“We will be firing Saturday, we’ll be ready,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We’re going to put the wrongs right on Saturday. It’s absolute madness travelling to Dover then a week later you go to Torquay. But it is what it is. We’ve just got to get on with it and we’ll be ready.”
