โ€œNo, Iโ€™m not coming, itโ€™s too farโ€ said Fair-weather Graham last Saturday, โ€œyou can give my place in the car away for the Worcester game.โ€ You can always rely on Graham, heโ€™s a proper Yorkshire man; when he makes his mind up, thatโ€™s it, thereโ€™s no going back. He even missed the grand day out to Tamworth with another bad does of intransigenceย

Friday night, 8.21 pm itโ€™s a text message from Fair-weather Graham, โ€œIโ€™ve changed my mind, is there any space in the car?โ€ It soon became apparent it wasnโ€™t just the football he was interested in; heโ€™s been on the internet this week looking for love.ย  โ€œI need Tesco Pete to upload my photo and you guys to help me fill in my profile, can I come?โ€ย  This will brighten up the day I thought….

Worcester City and their fans have had some substantial challenges since the club moved from St Georgeโ€™s road in 2013. Back in 2008 the club agreed to sell their home for 100 years for the opportunity to build a new 6000 capacity stadium close to the motorway. Since then things have not gone to plan with the team playing home games in Kidderminster and now at a new temporary home in Bromsgrove; thereโ€™s still no date for a return to their city.

Bromsgroveโ€™s Victoria Ground was our destination today, home to the old club Rovers and now the new club formed in 2009.ย  The club proudly spell out their name in bright red letters, each about six feet high across the width of the pitch behind the far goal, BROMSGROVE SPORTING. Itโ€™s a decent ground, a capacity of 3000 with a good old fashioned wooden stand perched high up above terracing below. The 250 or so travelling Shaymen were given the substantial covered terrace behind the other goal.ย

Half time and it was goalless and soulless. There was plenty of huff and puff but few chances; the only entertainment being the vocal travelling Shaymen behind the goal who seem to be having a party regardless.ย

The second half, with the Shaymen playing uphill towards their fans, got off to a good start and some comedic defending in the Worcester box resulted in the first goal. Soon it was 2-0 but with the referee indecisive it seemed as at first it was disallowed.ย  Then a Worcester penalty, Iโ€™ve no idea why, then a sending off before it seemed everyone in the ground was given a yellow card by the referee! The game finished with more huff and puff but no more goals, a 2-1 away win.

Driving back and Fair-weather Graham is straight on the inter-web filling in his online profile; charming, funny, entertaining, tall, slim and handsome, we ruled them all out. Gritty, opinionated, brusque and cantankerous we paid Graham all the compliments we could think of. ย Canโ€™t wait for the next away trip when we get to review his matches!

Next up weโ€™re off to Alfreton as the march to the play-offs continues.

Total miles on the road this season 2318, total Goals 40
