FC Halifax Town defeated Woking FC 2-1 toย maintain the grip inside the Vanarama National League top three. Attacker Matt Warburton scored Town’s goals and spoke to Shaymen TV at full time.

Warburton began by talking about his brace, “I’m buzzing about scoring the goals but it wasn’t the best performance from myself.”

He added on the performance of the team, “Today, it was just about grinding the result out, to be honest. That wasn’t one of our best home performances, it’s not how we want to play. However, we’ve lost games like that this season so it’s good to get over the line against a team in form that puts us under a lot of pressure.”

The Forward went on to speak about two individual players that shone in the game – Javid Swaby-Neavin and Sam Johnson. Defender Swaby-Neavin was making his first home start and helped Town win the penalty for the opening goal. Whereas, goalkeeper Johnson made some emphatic saves to make sure Town took all three points.

“Javid is in my car school, so I am buzzing for him,” Warburton told Shaymen TV. “We were driving to training on Friday and we had no clue that Javid was going to be involved because he’s been out on loan at Hyde United. However, I was in the manager’s office before Javid, so I kind of knew that he was playing.

“When I came out, I saw Javid and he had a massive Cheshire Cat grin saying he’s playing tomorrow. He was brilliant today, the way he made forward runs in the first half and defended in the second half was great. A lad of his age giving a mature performance like that goes a long way.”

Warburton on Johnson, “The lead was so important to keep and it was painful when Woking came forward, but it’s reassuring having a keeper like Sam,” said Matt. “He was coming out for the ball and pulling off wordlies right, left and centre in the 90thย minute – we are so lucky to have him. Sam goes about his business in a quiet way and he’s a credit to this club. Overall, he got us through today.”
