FC Halifax Town gain a hard fought draw at the Laithwaite Community Stadium after the dismissal on the hour of Nathan Clarke. Whilst the pre-match talk was that of the return of Captain Matty Brown; Clarke’s dismissal was the major talking point at full time.
Just outside the Halifax box Clarke made a tackle on Cards number sixteen Donnallen which saw referee Paul Howard deem a straight red. With the return however of Brown The Shaymen stood valiantly firm. Woking applied pressure on ‘keeper Sam Johnson who thanks to the clean sheet keeps his 71st Town clean sheet on his 178th appearance.
Manager Pete Wild also handed prolonged game time to winger Josh Macdonald and influential midfielder Cameron King. Teesider Macdonald flashed a shot wide of Cards ‘keeper Craig Ross with Niall Maher also firing well over twice in the first half. Returning from illness Cameron King keep to create that spark in the forward areas before being substituted in the 77th minute for Charlie Cooper. Cooper making his first Town start from the bench adding more steel to a resolute ten man Town team. This match from Clarke’s exit became a case of ‘attack versus defence’ however and the importance of Brown’s return was evident. This match also saw the return of winger Danny Williams whom completed the full 90 with the Wiganer was a tricky prospect for The Cards.
Woking has proved to be a difficult place for The Shaymen to come over the past twenty six years since their first meeting back in November 1993. Those last two and a half decades seeing only three victories for The Shaymen of Halifax Town, but today’s point was well deserved.
Town 4th in the Vanarama National League following the result a point behind leaders Yeovil Town.
