Following FC Halifax Town’s 2-0 defeat at home to Woking, Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game, the penalty decision, Woking’s defence, and looking ahead to Ebbsfleet United.

“We’ve gifted them two easy goals,” Wild said. “It was a complete non-entity, a drab affair. We’ve gifted them two goals and done nothing to win the football match. I ask them to do three things, win more headers, make more tackles, and run harder than them and especially first half we were absolutely miles off it. That’s why we have been beaten, we’ve gifted them two goals in what has been a drab game.”

Nathan Clarke gave away a penalty 14 minutes in which Max Kretzschmar slotted home to make it 0-1. Wild was disappointed with the way it was conceded but admits it was a penalty.

“100 percent it is a penalty,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We had two chances to close him down then we dangle legs and let them run through tackles. We then dangle a leg in, and it is a penalty. I have got no complaints over the decision; it was a penalty and it was systematic of our first half.”

Going into the second half with a two-goal lead, Woking put up a very strong defensive display to see out the game. Wild felt his side lacked the urgency to push through the defence.

“Of course, they stuck everyone behind the ball,” Wild said. “They are two goals up, away from home, it was always going to happen. It was up to us to break them down and the second half was a non-entity from both sides, and we have done nothing to win the football match.”

Halifax face Ebbsfleet United next Saturday in front of the BT Sports cameras. Wild is hoping for a better performance and result to go with it.

“We’ve got to bounce back,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “The teams that will be in the playoffs will be the consistent ones. We’ve got to bounce back quickly and make sure we get back to winning ways. It will have to be a better display on the telly next week because that today was just not good enough.”
