FC Halifax Town recorded a comfortable 5-0 victory over Wealdstone at the Shay in the Vanarama National League tonight.

Town boss Chris Millington made two changes from Saturday’s defeat to Maidenhead with Max Wright and Mani Dieseruvwe replaced by Fidel O’Rourke and Jamie Cooke.

O’Rourke made his first start for the Shaymen, and he was put through in the first couple of minutes, but he wasn’t able to sort his feet out and Wealdstone were able to clear.

The visitors had their own early chance as Brooklyn Ilunga crossed into the box met by Max Kretzschmar, but his effort was wide of the target.

There was an early substitution with Mason Barrett replaced by Whittaker on 15 minutes due to injury.

Town worked the ball well down the left-hand side, a cross in from Angelo Cappello was headed wide of the target from Alli. Cappello and Milli combined shortly afterwards, crossing into the box finding Fidel O’Rourke 10 yards out and firing over the bar.

Town dominated much of the play and a long Jesse Debrah throw was cleared as far as Cappello, but his shot was wide of the target from 20 yards out.

A Golden freekick was headed wide of the target by Jesse Debrah with 5 minutes to go of the first half.

Town’s dominance was rewarded with a goal in the first half of injury time. A Golden freekick into the box was hooked back into the six-yard box by O’Rourke and Jamie Stott headed past Sam Howes into the right-hand corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

Into the second half, a good shot from Alli forced a good save from Howes but Town weren’t to be denied a second goal. Debrah did well to get to the by-line and past Ferguson, his ball into the box found Stott whose first shot was blocked, rebound his shot came off the defender on the line to double his tally for the season.

Town made it three within a minute the ball over the top for Jamie Cooke into the box, turned his man and fired past Howes making it the first time Town have scored three in a game since the win over Dorking in December.

A Golden freekick was cleared and he went to win the ball back and was fouled in the penalty area. Referee Paul Marsden had no hesitation and pointed to the spot, but Milli Alli’s spot kick hit the post and bounced clear.

Town were able to give valuable minutes to Luke Summerfield who was brought on for Jack Hunter for his first minutes since Boxing Day against Altrincham, whilst Matt Warburton came on for Fidel O’Rourke for his return having last played for the Shaymen on New Year’s Day.

Alli raced at the Wealdstone defence, and he fired past Howes but the woodwork denied him.

Town rounded off a good night with two goals in injury time. Golden’s freekick was headed past Howes by Milli Alli for his fourth goal of the season and the first time the Shaymen have scored five in a game this season. Tylor Golden rounded the night off getting onto the end of a ball into the box and he coolly passed the ball past Howes into the net.

The Shaymen are back in action on Saturday with the trip to Dorking Wanderers, 3pm kick-off.
