Wealdstone: I’m Very Frustrated

Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 loss away at Wealdstone, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I’m very frustrated,” Millington said. “Disappointed and angry. After the last two performances, when we feel like we’re moving in the right direction and building towards something, the expectation on today was that we would see the results of that hard work. It’s very annoying.”

Town have now failed to score in the opening four fixtures, and Millington was concerned by the lack of opportunities the side created.

“It is concerning,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “In previous games we had been creating chances and we can put some of our bad luck down to goalkeeping performances. But then to go out with a bit of a whimper today and not really create or make the most of the chances we did create is disappointing. We know and the fans are aware of the quality we have got in this squad. Both the quality of player and of young men, they want to win, they care about the club in the most part. So the fact that we’re not carrying enough of a threat to go on and win games is very frustrating.”

One small positive for the Shaymen was the return of Kian Spence who was brought off the bench in the second half.

“You can see he is lacking minutes,” Millington said. “It’s been a long time since he played any competitive minutes, so he’s going to need time to get back to his best. We also missed Matt Warburton as well today. His energy and goal threat are a big miss. But I think the big problem with today was that they were more energetic than us. They showed a little bit more in their ability to win second balls, then tidy up and keep possession. We go again. It’s something we know we have to do better. Clearly our performances at the Shay have been much better than away from home, but we haven’t done enough yet to win a game so that’s wat we’ll look to do next Saturday.”

Town host Notts County next Saturday as the search for a first goal and a first three points continues.

“We had three very interesting tussles with them last season,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “I expect the games to be very similar this season. They will pose similar problems and in some respects, the types of problems we’re capable of dealing with and maybe more capable of dealing with. But we’re coming off the back of what is a very disappointing performance and we have got to have a reaction again, but a reaction that leads to a victory this time.”
