The season so far, the year that was and what 2020 has in store!
Super supporter Michael Byrne offers league sponsors Vanarama his take on 2019 and explains how he fell in love with the club
So the half-way stage has already been and gone – sum it up for us so far?
I think the word I would use, and probably best used, is interesting. One minute you are frustrated, the next minute you are shocked the team have pulled off such an incredible result. It’s never boring, put it that way. Nobody likes boring anyway.
But what does 2020 hold?
A push for promotion. I think we will stay around the top seven and if we do that we have got a chance of going back to Wembley.
Why aren’t things as good at home as they are away?
That’s the million dollar question. I think Pete Wild and the players would love the answer. We just need to break the current curse at home and if we do we have have a great second half of the season. The FA Trophy win at the weekend will totally raise confidence.
If you could wrap up one Christmas gift for your manager, what would it be?
A handbook for being able to play against ten men. We have lost four times when the opposition have less players than we do. They do say it’s harder!
Pick your National League title winner:
If Town can’t win it I would like to see Barrow do it which may surprise some people. I like how loyal their manager is.
The Christmas and New Year calendar – love it or hate it?
The Christmas and New Year schedule isn’t the main issue, playing so many games in the first few months is more of a struggle.
What’s your high point of 2019?
Beating one of the title favourites Chesterfield 3-2 at their place in September. We went top and were great value for it.
Your most memorable away day so far this season?
I would say Chesterfield too but Dover away was great being behind the goal when Cam confirmed the win with a stunning lob. It was live on TV as well. Good weekend with lots of beer.
When did you first start following your club?
I first went with my dad and uncle when the club were in the Football League and we carried on through thick and thin.
What makes the Town so special for you?
Local pride, the club is about the area and always will be. If you live in Halifax you know exactly what is going on at your club. Rebuilding like we did makes the family proud.
