It has been a busy week in the Vanarama National League as we approach Christmas and the New Year.

Wrexham – NEW MANAGER

Graham Barrow has stepped up as the new interim manager of Wrexham after his predecessor Sam Ricketts left for Shrewsbury Town.  Wrexham currently sit 4th in the table.  Barrow has quite an impressive CV managing the likes of Chester City, Wigan Athletic and Rochdale.  His first official match in charge will be against Aldershot.

Gateshead – Rafa Benitez Joins Fundraiser

Gateshead and Premier League outfit Newcastle United have a legends match scheduled on 7th April 2019 which will be hosted at the International Stadium.  The funds aim to help the finances of the club with Newcastle United’s manager Rafa Benitez coming on board in support of the legends match.

Barrow – NEW SIGNING

Barrow have moved quickly to replace their outgoing striker Tyler Smith who returns to his parent club, Sheffield United.  Smith replacement is teenager Olly Dyson who joins on loan from Premier League team Huddersfield Town and could start this week against Solihull Moors.

Solihull Moors – FA Cup run ends

This week Solihull Moors travelled to Blackpool knowing that a victory would secure a mouth-watering tie against Premier League giants Arsenal.  In the FA Cup replay Blackpool went 2 goal up inside 20 minutes only for Solihull Moors to bounce back and pull level.  It took an extra time penalty for Blackpool to end the cup run.

Chesterfield – NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Chesterfield have been busy in the boardroom as the former FA compliance officer Graham Bean signs on as the clubs new Chief Executive Officer.

Leyton Orient – Highest Attendance

The highest average attendance list has been announced with Leyton Orient edging the top spot over their Welsh counterparts Wrexham FC.  In 3rd sit Chesterfield FC and FC Halifax Town are 11th with an average attendance of 1661.

Ebbsfleet United – NEW SIGNING

Ebbsfleet have recently signed former West Ham academy player Freddy Moncur after having a successful six-month trial.  His former clubs include Leyton Orient, Wingate & Finchley and Bishop’s Stortford.
