FC Halifax Town return to the Shay for the first time since May 2022 with the visit of Torquay United in the Vanarama National League on Saturday, 3pm kick-off.

The Shaymen were defeated by Chesterfield in the play-offs at the end of a season which saw the team finish in 4th place.

The Shay saw the most home wins in the National League last season with 17 wins and 2 draws from 22 league games scoring 37 goals but conceded the lowest amount in the league on home soil of 11.

Town are now under the management of Chris Millington who has stepped up from assistant following the departure of Pete Wild to Barrow and will be assisted by Andy Cooper.

His first league game was down at the Hive last weekend and Town were defeated 2-0 thanks to goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and Nicke Kabamba. However Town finished the game with 10 men following the sending off of Jamie Stott for two yellow card offences.

Torquay finished the season in midtable last season and won 7 games, drawn 6 and lost 9 away from home in their 22 matches.

Gary Johnson’s side drew 0-0 at Oldham last weekend on the opening day of the season in front of 2690 fans at Plainmoor. Oldham finished the game with 10 men with former Town midfielder Dan Gardner shown a red card in the second half

Town won both games last season with a 2-0 home win at the Shay with Billy Waters and Gerry McDonagh on the scoresheet, whilst the away game Town won 3-2 with two goals from Jordan Slew and one from Billy Waters against his former side. Klaidi Lolos and Armani Little scored late on but the Shaymen held on for victory
