FC Halifax Town can confirm the signing of midfielder Tommy McDermott for the remainder of the season, following his release from Burnley.
Initially coming through the academy at Oldham Athletic, McDermott made the switch to Port Vale in 2021. In his first year at the club, he was named youth player of the year, and signed his first professional deal with the club in the summer of 2022. He made his EFL debut for the club at the age of 17 against Fleetwood Town. In January 2023, the midfielder joined Salisbury on loan in the Southern League Premier Division South for the remainder of the season.
At the start of the following season, Rochdale signed the midfielder on loan, where he made four appearances before being recalled in November. He then was sent out on loan to Curzon Ashton in the National League North. In February 2024, Burnley bought the midfielder for an undisclosed fee as he joined up with the club’s under 21 squad.
Last campaign, McDermott joined Shrewsbury Town on loan in League Two. The midfielder made 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring three as Salop finished the season in 19th. At the end of the season, the midfielder was one of nine players released from Burnley’s under 21 squad.
