FC Halifax Town fell out of the National League cup at the quarter final stage after a 1-0 defeat away to Tamworth. The only goal of the game coming just before the hour mark, as Ronan Maher’s free kick flew all the way post Sam Johnson to see the Lambs progress.
Three changes were in store for the Shaymen as they looked to progress to the National League Cup semi-finals. In came Jevon Mills, Florent Hoti and new signing Kieron Morris in place of David Kawa, Max Wright and Shaun Hobson.
The first half was a stalemate with neither side having many clear-cut chances, the closest anyone came was on the 20th minute mark as the Shaymen struck the bar following a corner, Harris also came close on a couple of occasions but there was no breakthrough heading into halftime.
The game opened up considerably after the restart, both teams were having more chances throughout. The breakthrough came in rather bizarre fashion as Ronan Maher’s free kick flew all the way in past Johnson at the far post.
Late on, the Lambs pressed in search of a second goal and came agonisingly close when Ponticelli struck the bar with a half-volley. However, the Shaymen also had chances to force an equaliser, most notably in the closing moments when Rachel produced an outstanding save to deny Will Hugill at the death.
