MATCH-PREVIEW: Monday 6th April 2026 – FC Halifax Town vs Tamworth
Tamworth: Current position 10th – P42 W16 D9 L17 F55 A66 GD-11 PTS57
The Lambs registered their first League win over Solihull Moors in a decade after their 1-0 home win over The Moors. “I didn’t know it was that long! I think we beat them in ‘The Cup’ last season though. We wanted to win today it’s a local derby… overall I was delighted with the performance’, a delighted Tamworth Manager Andy Peaks told the Staffordshire side’s media.
Dan Creaney scored his 8th of the season on Good Friday, however their Top Scorer for 2025/26 is Oliver Lynch with 9. Andy Peak’s men will be looking to make it two season running in which they have finished in the top 10 of The Fifth Tier – a commendable effort for a side that spent a decade prior in the National League North competing alongside the likes of Scunthorpe United, AFC Fylde, Chester, Darlington, and Hereford among others.
“Our remit at the beginning of the season was to stay out of the ‘bottom four’ [relegation places in the National League], we did that/confirmed at Brackley [with a 0-1 win on the 28th March] and now we’re looking at how high we can finish, we want to beat last seasons’ total [10th place with 17 wins and 64 points]” added Peak’s on Tamworth’s campaign as a whole.
On Monday’s game,
“It’ll be a hard game, they’re going well and for the Playoffs, loads of energy, and it’s ideal after this game. With the run we’re on it’s a game we should go and enjoy. The shackles are off.

Jay Turner-Cooke’s 94th minute winner just keeps The Shaymen’s Playoff hopes alive. With a crossbar hit by each, and a host of chances for Town and Altrincham both Managers post-match feeling their respective teams should have gained all three points Good Friday. Alty’s Neil Gibson credited The Shaymen with playing ‘a high energy and intensive pace throughout, which in the end lead to the win’. Having taken a watching brief Friday afternoon whilst serving a touchline suspension, Adam Lakeland was once more complimentary of the whole team performance, something The Gaffer has been quick to praise for the past six matches.
He cited match winner Turner-Cooke saying “if/when he adds more goals to his game, he’ll be a real force to be reckoned with” (he has four goals this season). Lakeland does concede the Playoffs is still ‘out of the clubs’ hands’, but they will press on until it becomes a mathematical impossibility and that he feels our home record ‘has been good all season and even versus Carlisle and Scunthorpe’, he concludes Town performed well.
The club will be without the services of Defenders Thierry Latty-Fairweather and Shaun Hobson both of whom were subbed due to injury. “Thierry, due to the nature of his injury and the stage we’re at in the season will now more than likely miss the rest of it due to his hamstring. Shaun was issues with his hamstring also, but it was more feeling cramping and some pinching in that area. He will almost certainly miss Monday’s game, but he’s the less severe of the two”.
Prediction – A Town win. Whilst what Andy Peak has spoken about “The shackles being off” for The Lambs, hopefully the intensity game The Shaymen play at as mentioned above by three separate Managers, plus the desire to keep pressing for a top seven finish will see our excellent home form continue. Halifax’s third away win coupled with three clean sheets (and ‘good’ performances versus Carlisle and Scunthorpe sandwiched between said away ties) gives The Shaymen a platform to build upon.
That said however, being without Thierry Latty-Fairweather and Shaun Hobson is a blow, but Jevon Mills and Adam Adetoro have proved to be reliable backups overall. There was no place for Angelo Cappello in Friday’s matchday squad and after having returned from injury versus Scunthorpe the match previous, Town fans will be hoping his omission was a precaution rather than an injury flair up. Tamworth are capable of causing an upset and will ensure the West Yorkshire side have to work for their win though.
