FC Halifax Town travel to Gander Green Lane where they will face Sutton United this Saturday. We will have a look at the previous games where we faced Sutton United.

Sutton United 3-2 FC Halifax Town 18/11/17

The first time we have ever faced Sutton United only came last season in the National League. Sutton got promoted two years ago when FC Halifax Town were plying their trade in the National League North, so it took till last season to face Sutton United. The game certainly was filled with action, but the game never went the right way for the Shaymen. Sutton taken the lead just before half time with current top scorer Ross Lafayette scoring seconds before half time. Sutton doubled their lead with Craig Dundas scoring a rebound. A few minutes after the goal FC Halifax Town were given hope with Tom Denton their to head the ball in to pull a goal back with half an hour left on the clock. Ross Lafayette was there again to steal the game for Sutton scoring a header on the 73rd minute giving them a two-goal lead. FC Halifax Town had a chance to bring it back, but Captain Matty Brown’s penalty smashed against the crossbar. Scott Garner pounced with five minutes to go though for FC Halifax Town and made the game 3-2, maybe if the penalty went in, we would of stole a point that game.

FC Halifax Town 2-1 Sutton United 10/04/18

In the last few games on the 2017/18 National League season we faced Sutton United at the Shay. The visitors missed a huge early chance hitting the crossbar from three yards out. But it was FC Halifax Town with the early goal where Mike Fondop-Talom rounded the keeper and made it 1-0 to the Shaymen. With ten minutes left on the clock substitute Ross Lafayette thought he may have won Sutton United a point by scoring the equaliser with not long to spare. But FC Halifax Town didn’t give up and Scott McManus effort was tipped off the bar and Ben Tomlinson was there to react and put the ball home to win FC Halifax Town the game and ruin Sutton United’s chances of automatic promotion.

There isn’t many previous games to show but these are the only two times we have faced Sutton United in the history of FC Halifax Town and also Halifax Town AFC.
