Following FC Halifax Town’s 2-2 draw against league leaders Sutton United, Manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I’m really happy with the players,” Wild said. “I’m pleased with their efforts and desire. We should have killed them off though when we had them at 2-0. We had enough chances to see them off, not just half chances, but really good chances. We need to kill teams off at that stage in the game. But then we have been done off two second phase set-pieces which is really frustrating. We just did not pick up the second balls quick enough and that also frustrates me.”

Town started the better of the two sides with the Shaymen creating multiple opportunities before Billy Chadwick opened the scoring in the 18th minute.

“We wanted to boss the game,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We wanted to dominate the game, which I thought we did for 70 minutes. In the last 20 minutes we gave them hope and then they bombarded us. I am really pleased for Billy he works ever so hard. He has had to feed off scraps in recent games because of personnel. It was a really good finish from him. We then bring Jake on and you look at the link up play between them.”

Again, the Shaymen started the second half the better of the two sides which saw Jack Earing double the Shaymen lead in the 61st minute.

“We scored at really good times,” Wild said. “They were two really good goals that we had worked on the training ground the other day. That was pleasing to see. I was really happy for Jack and the team to show we can do it against the top teams in this league.”

Up next for Town is the Easter Monday fixture against Weymouth. Wild is hoping for a similar performance that saw the Shaymen come out 5-1 winners in the reverse fixture.

“It is a welcome break,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “It will allow us to get sharper. Even today I thought we looked back to our athletic best. I think the break going into Weymouth will suit us. Hyde has come back quicker than expected which is credit to our medical staff. It is great that we’re getting a few more players back to utilise for the run in.”
