Stockport County: Needed A Bit Of Luck

After Halifax Town took a point from a tough away game against Stockport County, Shaymen winger Connor Hughes believes that his side are in a position to go to any away tie and fully expect to come away with points.

Halifax are one of the bigger sides in the Vanarama National North League, following their relegation last season. Yet Stockport always promised to be a tough test for Billy Heath’s men, as they themselves are one of the bigger teams in the league, having been a League One side in the not too distant past.

Tom Denton scored his sixth goal in four games to make sure the points were shared, and when asked about their chances of securing points at every ground in the league this season, Hughes had this to say; “You’ve got to be optimistic. We are one of the biggest teams in the league and with that comes a big pressure. People want to play you because it’s one of the bigger games, but we’re confident we can go anywhere and pick something up.”

Perhaps building on the well-earned point, the winger believes that the only thing that was required to bring all three home from Stockport was a little bit of luck. Despite admitting that before the game started his side would have been likely to have taken a point if offered it, Halifax were certainly not far away from winning the game.

“I think we just needed a bit of luck. Jordan Sinnot had a good game and he almost scored, if he scuffed the shots that he had then they would have gone in. Look at our first goal, was a bit scrappy but that went in without catching it too well and we’ll take that.”

After Heath admitted that he will be very keen to add to his squad before his side’s next game, Hughes stated that he will be happy to see anyone come in, wishing them all the best and hoping that they will get on.

You can see Halifax’s next game at the Shay Stadium against Tamworth on Saturday 20th of August, 3pm kickoff.
