FC Halifax Town defender Nathan Clarke was pleased with how he and the team performed given what happened on Boxing Day, after a 0-0 draw at The Shay in the Vanarama National League against Stockport County.

Heading into the game it was important for Pete Wildโ€™s side to put a performance in and prove that it was just a blip against the same opposition.ย

โ€œIt was a good reaction after going to their place and having the run around really unfortunately,โ€ Clarke told Shaymen TV after the match. โ€œWe needed a big reaction and I felt we got that today, I hope the fans thought that as well. It was a tough game, they’re in fantastic form and it was possibly a good point at the end.โ€

The Shaymen in their new system with three at the back kept a second clean sheet on the bounce with Clarke, as ever, a key part.

โ€œI played with it a fair bit when I was at Huddersfield and it just gives you that extra little bit of solidity with an extra man in there to help out. With not much time to work on it we have latched on to it quite well. Even with certain players playing out of position, both of them Jeff and Danny are being fantastic for us and rightly deserve to keep their places.โ€

With one more game left in the quick turnaround of games that the football festive period brings Clarke thinks that after Chesterfieldโ€™s result and performance alongside the reaction against Stockport the team are now back heading in the right direction.

โ€œThe last two games now have proved that we can react and perform, and we’ve certainly done that. We have now just got to keep progressing, keep learning and working on this new formation.โ€

Barnet is the next stop for the Shaymen travelling down to North London this coming Saturday.

โ€œIn this league everyone can beat everybody. We have got to be on our metal and I think these last two games now have shown that the lads are fighting for positions, there’s certainly a good bench backing up behind.โ€

You can watch the full interview with Nathan Clarke now on Shaymen TV.
