FC Halifax Town progressed to the next round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over St Ives Town.

Town came into the game looking for FA Cup fever to take hold and carry them into the FA Cup First Round Proper.

Goals from Jamie Cooke, Angelo Cappello and Mani Dieseruvwe secured the win for The Shaymen this afternoon.

The Town boss, Chris Millington, named two changes as Festus Arthur and Harvey Gilmour replaced Tom Clarke and Luke Summerfield. As a result, Jack Senior took the armband.

The first chance of the game fell to Town in the seventh minute, link-up play between Kian Spence and Cooke allowed Town into the host’s box. The ball fell to Tylor Golden who hit the ball on the volley but James Goff, in the St Ives net, managed to palm the ball away.

Spence was an instigator for a Town chance again just three minutes later, his ball was fed through the edge of the box for Rob Harker. His effort went just wide of the far post.

Town opened the scoring in the 15th minute as Cooke scored his first senior goal for The Shaymen. Harker played through Cooke who took on the St Ives defence. Cooke then fired a shot into the top of the net and gave Town the lead.

Just before the half hour mark, St Ives went on their first attack of the game. The hosts floated a free kick into the box, but it was headed out for a corner by Town. The subsequent corner was also floated into the box and cleared away by Town.

Five minutes later, Sam Johnson was called into action for Town to keep danger away. The ball was thrown into the 6-yard box for St Ives. The ball connected with former Town player Jonny Edwards, but his shot was saved by Johnson who got down well to his left.

Senior entered the book after being shown a yellow card in the 35th minute.

Just before half time, St Ives were granted a free kick on the edge of the Town box. Dylan Williams took the shot on, but it was wide of the target.

The fourth official indicated two additional minutes. Within that time, the hosts fired a long-range shot toward goal. The shot hit the post and fell back to the feet of Spence who cleared the danger.

St Ives Town had a lively start to the second half. The ball was brought into the box and fell to Edwards. Arthur was on hand to head it off the line for Town.

Edwards created another chance for the hosts in the 53rd minute. He managed to turn on the edge of the box to get the shot away. His shot was saved comfortably by Johnson.

The first substitution of the game was made by St Ives four minutes later, Greg Kaziboni made way for Tyrone Baker. Immediately after, Cappello was brought on for Gilmour for Town.

Millington went for a change of front man in the 62nd minute as Harker was replaced by Dieseruvwe.

Enoch Andoh had a chance to level the scoring in the 66th minute as he went on a run into the Town box. He fired his shot away, aiming for the top right, but Johnson pulled off a spectacular save to rid the danger.

Cooke had a go at getting a brace with 20 minutes left to play, he tried his luck from the halfway line, but his shot was wide of the target.

Spence was shown a yellow card in the 72nd minute for bringing down a St Ives player.

Cappello scored his first goal for Town in the 83rd minute after he went on a bursting run from inside the Town half. He drove into the box and beat the last defender and went on to round the keeper. The shot slotted into the bottom left corner.

The fourth official had indicated four additional minutes. Within that time, Town had a corner and Dieseruvwe was able to get onto the end of it to seal the deal for Town.

The referee blew for full time and Town found themselves into the First Round Proper.
