FC Halifax Town U19s secured the three points against South Shields in a 3-2 victory at the Wyke Sports Village in the National League U19 Alliance NLFA North Division
Straight away in the first minute, Town had a chance to take the lead. Nellson Van was able to take advantage of some scrappy play and got himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper but couldn’t convert to give Town the lead
In the 18th minute Town was able to take the lead, the ball was left hanging in the air going to the opposition centre half, but Van managed to steal it at the last second and go one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He won the 50/50 and converted it into an open net to give Town the lead
Only minutes later South Shields equalised, the ball ended up at their midfielder’s feet in the box and he placed the ball into the net to make it 1-1
South Shields took the lead in the 30th minute, the ball was bouncing in the box and their striker lashed at it and it found its way in the net for 2-1
The lead didn’t last for long as seven minutes later Town equalised, a deep free kick from Lewis Hemingway fell to Van who set it for Andre McKenzie and he struck it in the net to make it 2-2 going into the second half

Mthabisi Chinembiri was looking to get on the ball early in the second half, creating an early chance but Hemingway’s shot was sent out for a corner.
It was dominant throughout the second half for Town who weren’t letting South Shields make it out of their half, keeping the pressure on them for as long as possible
There was a big chance in the 55th minute for Van, who managed to get on the end of a cross from Ayo Oyebanjo. He got up early, but the header ended up going over the crossbar.
Captain Harry Woodward scored one of the goals of the season. He received the ball and beat his man then from 25 yards out he curled it, the ball went flying up and dipped right above the goalkeeper’s head to give Town the lead, 3-2.
Finally, in the last minute, Town finished the game off making it 4-2. Van latched onto the ball from a counterattack and the shot was so powerful that the keeper got his hands to it but could only parry it into the net to see the game out.
