MATCH-PREVIEW: Saturday 21st March 2026: Solihull Moors vs FC Halifax Town 17.30KO (Live on DAZN)
Solihull Moors: Current position 14th – P37 W11 D11 L15 F61 A62 GD-1 PTS44
The Moors are seven points clear of the bottom four with a game in hand on all, but seventeen adrift of Southend United in 7th having played one more; it would be safe to conclude that former Town Manager Chris Millington is looking ever-so-slightly over his shoulder. Following this match at the Armco Arena (Damson Park) Solihull travel to bottom side Truro City before hosting Altrincham (themselves six points clear with a game in hand) so one would imagine their season’s end will hinge on this next three set of results.
Speaking after a 1-1 away draw at yet another Enterprise National League struggler Brackley Town, Millington spoke of, ‘his side should have gained three points especially after Brackley went down to ten men, they played well enough but conceded a soft goal. Currently he feels Solihull are, ‘together and committed, if a little threadbare at the moment’.
The team from the town South of Birmingham, were bolstered Wednesday (18th March) by news that Coventry City Loanee Midfielder Isaac Moore has extended his stay until the season ends. He has two goals in five appearances off the back of twenty-eight for Forest Green Rovers already. In a club statement SMFC said of Moore, “Everyone at the club looks forward to continuing to work with Isaac over the coming weeks”.

The race for the Playoffs now depends as much on the fate of others as it does on the results of The Shaymen – quite simply it is for now out of the club’s hands. The 3-2 midweek win (and one of their games in hand on Town) for Southend United over leaders Rochdale means the Essex side now leapfrog into 7th two points ahead and with two games still in hand. Forest Green Rovers who have played the same number of games as Town (38) are six points clear and essentially now become the ‘new target’.
Adam Lakeland was full of praise for the effort and work rate in the 3-2 win over Boreham Wood last weekend and to press, has no fresh injury worries to contend with – Florent Hoti made the bench, but was unused vs The Wood, and Angelo Cappello is now ‘another week closer’ to being able to feature once more. Jamie Cooke who was already out long term with no concrete return date is confirmed to now be sadly out for the season.
Solihull Moors are a team The Shaymen have faced more than any other since August 2008 (this will be our 25th match-up). The two were first acquainted back in October 2011 as Blue Square North sides in an away FA Cup 4th qualifying round tie, won by a solitary late Danny Holland goal (Town lost 0-4 at home to Charlton Athletic in the next Round in front of the ITV cameras). The clubs have faced each other in every competition also (League, FA Cup/Trophy, and the Playoffs). In knockout competitions, it has been The Moors who have had the upper hand.
Town’s head-to-head vs Solihull: P24 W10 D8 L6 F26 A18
Prediction – in conclusion for both, it could be a case of, ‘which side is going to turn up this evening?’. If February’s goalscoring form for the hosts is anything to go by there is goals in The Moors side (only two points were gained for their eight scored however) before a bleak March saw Solihull lose (to an albeit resurgent) Gateshead, draw with lowly Brackley, and get thumped 5-1 at Wealdstone. Chris Millington will be looking for a reaction to this month’s poor set of results and that ‘bit of breathing space’ prior to the Truro/Altrincham double-header. We also cannot escape the fact he is coming up against a former side either!
The Shaymen’s away form has been an Achilles Heel of the side this season (they now must win every match away from home to better last season’s excellent return of 38 points), Town have also only managed three clean sheets away from The Shay. If the Halifax team that turned in the spirited displays vs Rochdale, Hartlepool United, and Boreham Wood take the field Saturday evening however, one would hope this would be a victory for the West Yorkshire side. With Carlisle United and Scunthorpe United on the horizon after Saturday too, it is key to go into them with momentum.
