FC Halifax Town came from 2 goals down to give themselves a chance of making the 3rdround of the FA Trophy in a replay on Tuesday night.

Adi Yussuf and Nathan Blissett scored directly after the break for the visitors, before Dayle Southwell and Matty Kosylo’s goals levelled the scoring.

After the game, we spoke to James Berrett for Shaymen TV where he spoke about the performance of his side.

“I think besides a sticky ten minutes at the start of the second half, where they score their goals. I thought we were good, we played good attacking football and were unlucky not to nick it in the end really.”

Berrett then spoke about his own performance after the former Grimsby returned from injury.

“I thought I did alright. I was just pleased to get 90 minutes really and very pleased to be running around the football pitch again. When I did my injury, I didn’t know how long it would be if I play again this season, so to be as back as quick as I have done is amazing.”

The Shaymen did go two goals down today but Berrett said the team never lost faith and knew they still had a chance.

“We know we’ve got goals in this team! As soon as we got our first goal, we thought, let’s go on and win this and we were unlucky we didn’t in the end. So, on Tuesday, hopefully, we can try and get the victory there.

With players coming back from injury, there’s competition for places in the squad. Cameron King and Jonathan Edwards both came off the bench today to make an instant impact, creating the two Halifax goals.

“We’ve got good players in the stands now. If you’re not playing well, then you’re going to be replaced by somebody else that can do it. Competition for places is only going to make us stronger and make people up their game, hopefully meaning we can pick some more points up.”

The experienced midfielder then spoke about how he has been keeping fit during his time away from the action.

“I’ve been back training a couple of weeks, and I’ve just built it up. I started with a warm up and then into full training, which I’ve done a few times this week and I’m just really pleased to be back.”

“I’ve been in the gym as much as I could be. Even days off I’ve been in and still working as hard as I can to try and get my fitness up. Just strengthening my leg up as much as I can and fortunately I didn’t feel it today so I was happy with it.”

The replay will be on Tuesday night, so it’s a quick turnaround for the teams.

“I’m expecting a tough game. They’re a tough team, a strong side with physical players so it’ll be another game like today. But we’ve shown we can more than match them, so hopefully, we can go there and finish the job.”
