Following FC Halifax Town’s spirited 2-3 defeat to Port Vale, ‘keeper, Sam Johnson offered his thoughts on the game, in addition to pre-season overall.

“It’s always disappointing to lose, but I know it sounds cliché but pre-season results aren’t that important”, said the 25 year-old.

“It’s about players getting 90 minutes in their legs and being fit. It’s disappointing to lose, disappointing to concede three goals, but I feel that everyone played well.”

The Shaymen proved to be a stern test for League Two outfit Port Vale, and Johnson was quick to point out the positives despite the defeat: “I think we looked fit, personally. We kept going until the very end and I thought that we played some good football, especially in the first 45 minutes.”

“Then unfortunately we were a bit sloppy for the first ten or 15 minutes of the second half, but overall I think we looked good and particularly defensively in the first half.”

“Pre-season has been good and it’s been hard, which we expect” stated the former Port Vale stopper.

“The lads are enjoying training at the minute and I’m hoping that comes across on the pitch as well.”

“Luckily goalkeepers don’t have to do too much running, so it’s not been too difficult for me personally.”

The Shaymen’s next pre-season fixture is on Saturday, away at Coalville Town.
